How many times has your back go out on you after doing a simple task around the house or at the office? Chances are if you work at a sedentary job like sitting behind a desk all day and you are active only on weekends doing yard work, most likely you have experienced back pain. People who are in construction building structures and such are used to the physical requirements of their job. They know how to lift heavy objects properly. Weekend warriors beware. Strengthening the lower back muscles with some exercises is a starting point if you want to avoid back pain and injuries.

The areas of the body that help support the back are your abs, hamstrings and hip flexors. Using rubber bands or super exercise bands help stretch hamstrings is one way to strengthen the surrounding muscles. First lie on your back on the floor keeping both legs stretched out flat in front of you. Next take the band and center one foot on it while holding the ends of the band with your hands. Lift that leg off the floor. Make sure you keep your hips from lifting off the floor. Pull the leg toward the ceiling. You should feel the stretch. If you are finding it difficult just bend the knee slightly. Repeat leg raises with each leg.
