Making Sense of the High Speed Internet Providers in my Area
I’ve decided to upgrade my high speed broadband, so I began my research to find out who the high speed internet providers in my area are and what the different delivery technologies meant to me. I really needed an education in the basics — what are DSL, cable internet, fiber optics and satellite, and what are the similarities and differences. Which technology is the best for me? How does the difference in price for the different speeds and packages affect my internet performance? And what speed do I actually need? I don’t want to pay for too much speed, but I also don’t want to end up with too little speed either.
I saw an advertisement on television from a broadband supplier. I called the 800 number, held for a long time and moved through a lot of automatic answering machines until I finally spoke to someone who told me that their company did not service my area. After that big waste of time, a co-worker told me about how he selected his internet provider. He went to a great comparison website with several providers featured, along with the current specials available. There was a quick address interface to look up whether or not the company provided service to my area. After I narrowed down the ISP’s by state I was able to do a side by side comparison of the various plans and programs available.
