It’s Time to Start Thinking About a Cold Frame

Cold Frames can really come in handy during two very important times of the year; at the end and the beginning of the growing season. While most people don’t think about them much for the beginning of a season, once you see how much yield you will loose after the first frost, you start to think about using a cold frame to extend those great vegetables that you are now used to picking every other day or so. Putting a cold frame over a part of a garden or flower bed to further protect and extend those wonderful plants can sometimes extend the growing season by a month or so! Of course this will depend on were you live and the climate.

If you need something a little more substantial because the area you have is a little bit more than most cold frames can cover, you might want to consider a small greenhouse kit. Small is a relative term so you will need to measure the area you want to cover and purchase a kit that will fit over it. What I like about these small kits is they are portable and can easily be moved from place to place. This makes them ideal for season extenders as well as good greenhouses to grow year round if you so desire.
